Ryoko's healing journey
Hello! My name is Ryoko ("Lyo-ko"). I was born and raised in a small city, called "Aizuwakamatsu" in Northern Japan. Aizu is very famous for their Japanese sake wine making and we have so many beautiful hot springs. Relaxing in the hot springs is still my favorite pastime! It is a very, very magical place in the planet... Please go visit!
I still remembered my 1st baking experience with my dad in our small kitchen when I was 7 years old... I have always loved checking out different recipes since I was little. I still love to cook!! When I was younger, I was heavily involved with sports and through various sport injuries, I experienced all kinds of folk remedies including making a "Qi-ball" (energy ball in hands). I had amazing therapists who had helped me with my injuries. I had my 1st Shiatsu book when I was maybe 11 years old, and I was trying out all kinds of Shiatsu points on my own. I was very fascinated early on by different healing modalities. I am very thankful for those therapists, my basketball coaches and my family who gave me their knowledges and supports and helped me to heal. There was the knowing inside me that, when I grew up, I wanted to give back to others and help people.
I came to the US to study Sports Medicine in Massachusetts (You can read more about my professional credentials here). In my early twenties, I suffered from IBS. It came suddenly, seemingly from out of nowhere. I was under a lot of stress at my 1st full time therapist job. The clinic where I was working at that time was overbooking patients (plus my boss was going through a divorce and I ended up taking his patient load too...). Under those circumstances, I could no longer keep up my professional quality standard that I wanted to give my patients, and I got frustrated. I was also finishing up my thesis. I was practicing yoga & meditation, but my yoga practice back then was more physically challenging than what I practice and teach today - that was no good either. I experienced firsthand how stress can manifest as physical illness... yes, it was scaring and devastating. It was an awakening call for me. I started meditating more and changed my yoga practice to a more gentle way so that I was able to turn my awareness inward. Again, it was painful at that time, but now I am very grateful that I started listening to my own body in my early twenties.
With my work visa status (I needed to look for a new sponsor to leave that very stressful job!), I thought it would be impossible to switch and look for another job, but I did it! I got a full time job at a physical therapy clinic where the owners really care about their patient care quality and they are also very open to alternative therapies that I shared. I had an amazing friend who gave me courage to believe in myself. Sometime you just need to hear from somebody, "You can do it!" When I closed that one door, many opportunities opened up for me. It was incredible. However, when I worked at the physical therapy clinics over a few years, I still experienced a lot of disconnections between the mind and body in Western medicine. I decided I wanted to immerse myself into preventative medicine and reach out people in more holistic ways. My inner voice was telling me... "You can do it!." I heard that calling twice during my deep meditation when I was in two different retreats during the summer of 2008. In the fall, I left my full time therapist job at the clinic and I started my own holistic center, "Ryoko Suzuki - Holistic Healing & Wellness".
My essential oils stories: First, I was introduced to essential oils when I was in a massage school in 2006. I was about 1 inch taller after my 1st aromatherapy!! I loved it so much. I started using the essential oils as my everyday for a multitude of things for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications - and they are more than just aroma or ache reducers for my clients. Shortly after taking a few drops of lemon oils with my water, my skin issues started disappearing from my hands (which I had for over 10 years, and nothing helped!). Yes, after 5 years later, they were still completely gone! It really clicked with me - healing our body from the inside out. Essential oils have been keeping our family healthy and helping my clients overcome their different ailments like anxious feelings, fatigue, head/neck tensions, occasional sleeplessness, seasonal threats, digestive issues, etc. (physical, mental & spiritual; To read testimonials, click here). My own sister, Yuko, in Japan has her amazing stories with essential oils too. Aromatherapy helped her headaches and neck & shoulder tensions more than acupunctures, and she went back to school to become a Medical Aromatherapist in Japan. I am so passionate about sharing natural remedies with you and helping you listen to your own body.... there is amazing innate wisdom within you! I live in Nashville TN with my sweet, incredible husband, Jeff, who continues to inspire me to follow my path. If you are in town, please check out my classes or private sessions. Instead of treating only symptoms, I would like to address the underlying causes of an condition in very subtle way (not forcefully, but gently) to dissolve physical, mental and emotional blockages (pain, discomfort, and old mental patterns, etc...). Experience deep relaxation, transformation, and profound changes in your body, mind and emotions to be present in your own presence!
In addition to one-on-one healing sessions (in person/zoom/phone), private & semi-private yoga classes, I am also available for Wellness coaching/consultation for your health & well-being (in person/zoom/phone), and a FREE essential oils class for your friends &/or workplaces to learn more about natural remedies with therapeutic grade essential oils.
While continuing my spiritual journey and practice, I enjoy tea/coffee time, cooking (Ayurveda, macrobiotic, vegan, etc...), gardening, hiking, traveling, reading, listening to music, taking photos, chanting, and playing her piano, singing bowls, didgeridoo & harmonium.
Thank you for visiting my blog! Feel free to contact me for any questions.
