Svaroopa® Yoga's Different Themes
Core Opening Theme:
The purpose of this Theme is not to become "better" at these poses, but to use the poses to get immediate effects that extend through your whole body, as well as fulfilling the prime objective of quieting your mind in order to open up your deeper inner experience. This theme, Core Opening, is the most important Theme in Svaroopa Yoga.
Abdominals Theme:
I quit teaching and practicing Pilates when I discovered Svaroopa® yoga and heard this teaching "Your abdominals work for you once you’ve released your spine." First of all, I was so skeptical, but this was so true when my deep tensions finally got released with Svaroopa® yoga spinal sequence. I felt so much stronger and my digestive system got so much happier too without my Pilates routine!

Backbends Theme:
"Unravel the tensions that cause your body to crunch forward as you age."
This series introduces how to lengthen a short, “mounted” sacrum, which is one of the causes of back pain. These areas need to be lengthened before that part of your spine gets “frozen” into the shape of a crunched back and sticking out head. You will also learn how to release the tensions in the vertebrae behind the heart. This unlock behind the heart is the key to getting long-term improvement in your neck and shoulders.
Standing Poses Theme:
Just like the yoga magazines show, you’ll be doing the Warrior poses and other standing poses but in the Svaroopa® yoga way. Discover the support of your bones while you use your abs, arms and legs all at the same time. Experience a new realm of mastery, cultivating your strength and decisiveness together!
Forward Bends Theme ("Heart Openers"):
We focus on forward bends poses that promote a feeling of surrender, serenity, letting go, accompanied by inner bliss. Forward bends poses gently melt your heart and release the tensions in your neck & shoulders. You will learn the effortlessness in each pose and discover the surrender in the midst of the effort, not only in yoga class, but in your whole life!
Neck & Shoulders Theme:
Learn a powerful approach, completely different than the medical paradigm, yet easy to prove how well it works, all within one yoga class. Your neck and shoulders automatically improve when you get spinal release at your tailbone. These changes are a grounded opening that lifts and lengthens the spine from tail-to-top.

Balance & Inversions Theme:
Both types of poses are taught together in one Theme because they share an important quality – the principle of finding the point of balance rather than tightening to create a false sense of balance. You learn how to stand in your bones and find the balance in your feet, so you become steady in the pose. In addition, your mind will become wonderfully peaceful. Now you apply these principles to inversions, including mild, moderate and full inversions. This theme is very important for life skills. Your ability to balance physically is related to your emotional balance and your steadiness of mind.
Classical Poses Theme:
This physically challenging theme means you get to work a little harder and go farther than you have ever gone before! Since it is so easy to create spinal tensions by doing full yoga poses, you have prepared yourself by learning the different variations so that you can still provide core opening. You have learned how to use abs, arms and legs effectively and you are able to isolate these muscles from your spinal muscles. Now you learn to experience the full poses! Learn how to work hard without pushing. Discover how the classical poses through Svaroopa® yoga's special methodology provide profound spinal release while strengthening your body and the power of your inner resolve.
Vinyasa Theme:
Learn to move and breathe in openness. The message built into this theme is that there is more available to you. Now you learn to link poses together in a continuous sequence, moving and breathing while opening your spine. This leads to living your yoga in the midst of the life’s challenges. Develop your ability to fine-tune the individual poses in each pose sequence, as well how to connect them in a continuous sequence, and graduate to doing variations that provide increasing levels of complexity and mastery.

The culmination of months of study and preparation is this meditative theme. Seated poses are the most important of all asanas; you began with them in Daily Practice and now you return to them changed. All the other poses you have been learning and practicing have made a change in your ability to sit. In the seated pose, you naturally experience the inner realms of your own Self that yoga promises. Plus the twists have a profoundly quieting effect on the mind, getting the things that limit your bliss out of the way.
